price comparison that doesn't suck

An Interruption To Service

18 August 2009, 18:34

If you’re seeing this, you’ve probably noticed that the main priicr site is down.

We’ve taken it down for a number of reasons, not least of which is that we haven’t been able to focus enough attention on it, and if you’ve been using the site you’ll have noticed things haven’t been as up to date as we’d have liked!

So rather than let things stagnate, we’ve taken the site down, with a view to relaunch at some stage in the next year or so, once the client work calms down again.

I hope you’ve found it useful, if you have any other comments feel free to let us know

Improved Search

15 January 2009, 19:40

We’ve had a lot of great feedback, both in person and on various forums around the web (including the priicr.com page on Get Satisfaction) and through the coming weeks it’s site improvement time.

One of the most requested features was an improvement to the slightly fussy search on the site. Well, good news: it is much improved. You can even search for acronyms cod gets your the ‘Call of Duty’ series for example! There’s also no more spacing problems such as SoulCaliber Soul Caliber or LittleBigPlanet vs. Little Big Planet.

We’ve a long list of things we want to improve, but this is the first of a new year of improvements. So why not go get your cheap games now!

Welcoming Amazon

15 December 2008, 22:24

A ‘data’ day today. We have the 800-pound gorilla of e-commerce in the UK, Amazon, now live on the site.

Also cleansed an awful lot of the database in order to get all the products lined up under the right names and formats.

There is still a little work to be done in terms of making sure all the various ‘special’ editions and plastic musical instruments are correctly categorised, but at the moment that info isn’t available on the outward facing site! Although you will see some duplicate shop entires under Guitar Hero: World Tour (360 and PS3) and Rock Band (360 and PS3) for example.

We are gradually getting there. We also now have HMV and ASDA live as of this weekend, you get some surprising bargains when you start adding in as many retailers as you can!

And so we begin

12 December 2008, 20:46

The doors have secretly been left open for a while now, but I suppose you can say priicr officially launched about an hour ago.

Why?

A good question.

If this site is to have a mission I suppose it is to do price comparison properly. There are many very large sites who compare prices across a huge range of products, but they’ve never been much use to me.

I generally knew what I was looking for and just wanted the cheapest price, but I was always put off by a lack of breadth in terms of stores, or pages and pages of the wrong items. So I set out to solve a more straight-forward problem, and do it as comprehensively as I can.

So for now it’s just games, no consoles bundles, no DVDs, no washing machines. Just games on as many websites as I can lay my hands on.

The coming days

I shall be adding up a couple more shops and cleansing the data to make it more useful as well as begin to get my name out there on the gaming forums of the UK.

The Big Daddy of e-commerce in the UK, Amazon, will also be making an appearance before the end of Monday.

Feedback

I’d be delighted to hear from you about the site, how you think it can be improved or what future features you’d like to see.

So what are you waiting for? Go get yourself an early Xmas present

It's Alive

After months of struggle, it’s up. It’s staying up, and it works.

And they said it’d never happen.
